As weird as it may seem, but aside from this blog, I also carry with me a hard copy of cigarette smoking facts. Whenever I’m out and I feel the urge to smoke or whenever I’m beginning to forget all the dangers, I simply pull out that little piece of paper and start reading. This sounds crazy but that’s how determined I am to quit smoking and I know myself enough to know that if I don’t read it over and over again, I will forget it, I’d stop caring and go back to smoking again.
Here’s the list that I bring with me everywhere. Before you light that next cigarette your holding, read on first and you might change your mind.
* Cigarettes contain Nicotine. An addicting substance that reaches the brain in seven seconds after inhaling a cigarette. That’s twice as fast as heroine injected into the vein. Nicotine makes quitting hard since your body tends to look for it.
* Cigarettes contain Tar. A brown sticky substance that damages the lungs and causes respiratory diseases. Tar damages the lungs’ cilia, which are the sweepers in the lungs.
* Cigarette smoking causes cancer in Lungs, Kidneys, Bladder, Cervix, Pancreas and is a major cause of Emphysema, Chronic Bronchitis, Heart Disease and Stroke.
* Cigarette smoking kills over 430,000 people each year in the U.S. alone. That’s more than all the deaths caused by car accidents, AIDS, drug abuse, and murder combined.
* Smoking kills one person every ten seconds.
* Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of cancer deaths in men.
* Smokers over the age of 35 are more likely to die from lung disease and upto 22 times more likely to die from lung cancer than non-smokers.
* A stick of cigarette takes away 10.7 minutes of your life.
But If you will quit. After two or three months, you will experience more stop smoking benefits. You will be much healthier. The lung will function much better and its functioning will increment by 30 percent.
